What functions do dresses have?
Some women like to wear dresses with function for sports as well as for traveling and outdoor excursions. Meanwhile, you can fall back on a proud selection. For almost every activity you can find a suitable dress. Modern functional materials guarantee airy sun protection in summer and a lined overcoat in winter. - Dresses with UV protection: The dresses are made of fibers such as cotton, nylon or polyester. These fibers already have a natural UV protection. The more densely these fabrics are woven, the better they block UV rays. Thus, a longer stay in the sun is possible. A dress with UPF50 UV protection will last 500 minutes, or about 8 hours. UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) means that the fabric allows less than one fiftieth of UV radiation to pass through. 98 percent of UV radiation is blocked. Especially when washing UV-protective clothing, a few small things should be taken into account. No fabric softener should be used when washing. Before washing, turn garments inside out and close zippers and velcro closures. This prevents the formation of holes and pulled threads. Wash light-colored items separately from dark ones to avoid discoloration.
- Quick-drying dresses: During the warmer seasons, dresses with quick-drying fabrics are very popular. Most quick-drying dresses are made of polyester, as the polyester blend dries very quickly and is particularly elastic. Polyester also reliably wicks occurring moisture away from the body.
- Cotton dresses: Cotton dresses bring advantages and disadvantages. Dresses made of cotton are basically breathable, so they are especially suitable for warmer temperatures. In addition, cotton as a natural fiber is particularly known for its robustness as well as its high tear resistance. At the same time, the material is abrasion-resistant and insensitive to acids. The fiber releases excess heat well to the outside. It is not as insulating as synthetic fibers, for example, and is air permeable. Cotton dresses have the disadvantage that they dry much slower than other fabrics.
What are the different types of dresses?
- Travel dresses: Especially in warmer regions, women prefer the airy feel and feminine look of a travel dress. Instead of pants and a shirt, only one garment needs to be worn. It is especially important that the outdoor dress does not only look pretty, but also supports the particular activities with functional materials. Dresses made of synthetic fiber mixes such as polyester are breathable and dry quickly. Some dresses have additional UV protection. These are popular for beach visits because they can be put on and taken off quickly.
- Winter dresses: There are also warm dresses for women for frosty days. Wool dresses or merino dresses provide a lot of warmth to fast-freezing ladies. Dresses made of merino wool actively warm as long as they absorb moisture. This is because the protein molecules of merino fibers release energy in form of heat when they collide with water molecules - so much that the temperature increase, depending on the fiber quality, can be up to 10 degrees. Combined with tights or leggings, you don't have to give up your feminine outfit in winter.
- Summer dresses: Due to the strong sunlight in summer, most summer dresses are provided with UV protection. Summer dresses have a very thin and air-permeable fabric. The most popular material is cotton because it is so soft and breathable. Cotton fibers have a slightly stiff structure, which makes the fabric perfect for breathable dresses. For really hot days, we recommend linen dresses. The textile fiber is the summer fabric par excellence. The special weave keeps heat away and due to its texture, the material absorbs sweat quickly. Damp places dry again in no time.
