About Mountain Equipment
The success story: products with alpinistic demands
The English outdoor manufacturer Mountain Equipment can already look back on more than five decades of experience in the development of expedition equipment, sleeping bags and mountain sports clothing. Mountain Equipment down sleeping bags, hardshell and down jackets have been and are still tested on various expeditions and alpine ventures around the globe and under the toughest conditions. In the process, the developers of the British mountain sports equipment company work closely with professional alpinists, mountain guides, climbers and expedition mountaineers to constantly improve and further develop the Mountain Equipment hardshell and insulation clothing, as well as the sleeping bags. In the end of the day, athletes and alpine athletes must be able to rely one hundred percent on their equipment and outdoor clothing in the harsh mountain environment.
Sustainability
Mountain Equipment - statement on sustainability
In addition to the highest standards of function and quality in the manufacture of high-quality outdoor clothing & equipment, both environmental and social responsibility has always been a top priority for Mountain Equipment.
DOWN CODEX®
As a proven down specialist, Mountain Equipment was the first outdoor brand to introduce a system back in 2009 that transparently and comprehensibly discloses the entire down supply chain. With the so-called DOWN CODEX®, the independent organization IDFL (International Down and Feather Laboratory) regularly inspects all supplier companies and ensures compliance with strict animal welfare conditions such as species-appropriate husbandry, natural access to water areas, exclusion of live plucking & forced fattening, and much more. Since 2014, every Mountain Equipment down product has included a 12-digit code that allows customers to view details about the origin of the down used in their product, as well as the quality characteristics of each batch of down. Here you can check the origin and quality of Mountain Equipment down products.
DOWN CYCLE®
In addition to the DOWN CODEX®, Mountain Equipment implemented a new project in 2018: The DOWN CYCLE®. The big goal is to develop a completely closed, sustainable as well as economically viable recycling system. For this purpose, down products that are no longer used (e.g. jackets, sleeping bags or old bedding) are collected, the down is removed from them, washed, sterilized and re-sorted to end up in new products again. With the DOWN CYCLE® products Mountain Equipment wants to help create a greater sense of responsibility and awareness for the valuable natural product down. Down is a very valuable natural product that, with proper care, is much more durable than, for example, zippers and cover fabrics of a product. Mountain Equipment also ensures the high quality and reliability of recycled materials in its recycled products, whose ecological footprint is also significantly smaller than products filled with new down.
FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION (FWF)
Mountain Equipment has been a member of the non-profit organization "Fair Wear Foundation" since 2012 and has held the so-called "Leader Status" since 2016. This is the highest of three possible categories and obligates the company to implement the highest standards for socially just working conditions. The payment of living wages, appropriate working hours, occupational safety and the prohibition of child labor are just a few aspects of the "Code of Labor Practices" to which the members of the Fear Wear Foundation are committed. Here you can find the latest Brand Performance Check about Mountain Equipment of the FWF. And here is our current Social Report. Mountain Equipment has set itself the goal of constantly improving standards and goals and to consistently continue on the path already taken with Down Codex®, Down Cycle® and the FWF.
FAQ
Which outdoor and mountain sports associations does Mountain Equipment support?
Due to its functional and high-quality outdoor clothing as well as its extremely technical alpine equipment, Mountain Equipment has become a premium outfitter for various mountain guide associations and expedition teams. Alpine associations such as the AMI (Association of Mountaineering Instructors) or the BMG (British Mountaineering Guides) push the limits with Mountain Equipment's outdoor clothing and down sleeping bags. In German-speaking countries, for example, the athletes of the expedition squad of the German Alpine Club (DAV) use Mountain Equipment sleeping bags and garments in the mountains all over the world. For good reason, of course. After all, Mountain Equipment's various products won't let you down, no matter how uncomfortable and harsh it might be out there.
Are Mountain Equipment products made for demanding conditions?
In the area of outdoor and mountain sports clothing, Mountain Equipment stands out with extremely high-quality insulation layers for demanding expeditions and trips into the mountains, just as it already does in the sleeping bag sector. The high-quality, extremely durable down and Primaloft jackets reliably protect the body from extreme cold. In the softshell and hardshell range, the various touring pants, Gore-Tex rain jackets and functional mid- and baselayers are sought-after products on tours, expeditions and outdoor adventures.
Which sleeping bag is suitable for which outdoor use?
Model names such as Mountain Equipment Helium, Classic, Glacier, Extreme or Xero are probably familiar to every nature lover, camping fan and outdoorsman who has taken a closer look at the sleeping bag series of the British mountain sports outfitter. Especially globetrotters, trekkers, cyclists or backpackers fall back on the Classic and Helium sleeping bag series from Mountain Equipment. Expedition sleeping bags like the Mountain Equipment Extreme and Glacier down sleeping bag ensure a restful sleep even in the coldest conditions. The Mountain Equipment Starlight, for example, is a robust, durable and water-resistant synthetic fiber sleeping bag for tough camping conditions.
Does Mountain Equipment have clothing accessories in the product line?
It is absolutely impossible to go through the winter or to climb up at 3000 meters without accessories such as gloves, mittens, hats and beanies. Therefore, the British outdoor brand Mountain Equipment of course also offers technical equipment and accessories such as outdoor gloves and hats. Whether in via ferrata, ice climbing, freeride skiing and snowboarding, on the road in the Arctic Circle, mountaineering or simply traveling to distant countries, the various glove models and mittens ensure that you have everything under control at all times. You will also certainly find the perfect accessory for every activity for your head among the huge range of Mountain Equipment hats and beanies.
