What materials does Picture Organic Clothing use?

Since the brand Picture Organic Clothing produces all its products sustainably, great attention is also paid to the materials used. Therefore, almost all of the cotton used comes from organic farming. In addition, 69% of the polyester needed for the production of technical clothing comes from recycled plastic bottles. The company develops technical fabrics from plants in order to completely eliminate the use of petroleum-based materials. Any leftovers generated during the manufacturing process are reused as linings in some products to keep resource waste to a minimum. Chemical substances are also avoided in the wool and leather used, as these materials come 100% from animals raised in happy conditions.

How does Picture Organic Clothing reduce packaging waste?

Since plastic packaging is a significant contributor to environmental pollution, Picture Organic Clothing tries to counteract this problem with environmentally friendly packaging methods, such as the "Roll Pack" method. This involves rolling up T-shirts, sweatshirts and pants, dresses, shorts or chinos and then tying them together with just a piece of string.

What is the "Picture for good" program?

With the "Picture for good" program, the French company launched a program for responsible projects in 2018. In collaboration with renowned non-profit organizations such as WWF or Beyond Boarding, Picture provides technical and financial support for charitable projects. For example, a garbage cleanup expedition to Mustagh Ata was conducted, removing 800 kg of garbage from the mountain.

What is organic sourcing?

Picture Organic Clothing has always been working on innovative solutions for sustainable production of its products since the company was founded. In order to break away from fossil fuel dependency, Picture Organic Clothing not only uses recycled polyester, but also works with the bio-sourcing method. Bio-sourcing involves creating a fabric that is partially made from plant-based materials such as sugar cane or castor seeds. Here, Picture Organic Clothing works with a fermentation process with specific bacteria that convert the sugar from the raw material into bio-ethanol through a chemical reaction. Through another synthesis phase, the bio ethanol is then converted into bio mono ethylene glycol (BIO-MEG). By using this method, Picture Organic Clothing is taking another step in moving away from the use of petroleum-based polyester in production.

Picture Organic Clothing focuses on maximum transparency in production and places as much emphasis on fair working conditions as it does on working for the environment. Picture Organic Clothing is therefore also a member of the "Fair Wear Foundation", which is dedicated to improve working conditions for workers in the textile industry. The foundation's pillars in this regard are based, among other things, on the fact that employees have chosen to work voluntarily, receive a living wage and enjoy healthy working conditions. Another important principle of the foundation is furthermore that there is no exploitation of child labor.

What is the "Circular Program"

From recycled outerwear to organic fibers to membrane shells made from bio-based materials, Picture works ceaselessly on sustainable innovation and making its products last longer. But more than that, measures such as upcycling, waste reduction campaigns, the gradual elimination of PFCs, a rental service and the lifetime repair guarantee are further initiatives by the brand to bring product development closer to a circular economy. The "Circular Program" is all about recycling. It involves the collection and recycling of used clothing of all possible brands, made of 100% polyester. The fabric scraps generated during the manufacturing process are also mobilized to create a significant stock. Thus, the average composition of a recycled fiber is 60% fabric scraps and 40% used clothing. From the 2023 winter season, the "Circular Program" will include the complete line of technical Picture products made from textile industry waste. Basically just following the motto: nothing is lost, nothing is recreated, everything is transformed. In this way Picture Organic Cloothing pursues the motivation to make the textile industry more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
